Is that book "The All-American Five Radio" a good place to start for a newbie that wants to learn radio repair for this radio, I might find a good deal on a project 9 X 571 and restore it. I figured this radio might just be an ornamint to sit next to my turntable and I would still listen to it thru the bose speakers, nope the bose speakers will be getting packed up and put in the closet. I have read about tube radios having a rich deep quality to them, but I couldnt understand until now.

I used to have this hooked up to some Bose computor speakers (needed amplified speakers) The 9 X 571 blows them away for full in-depth sound. Well I came home with a 1950 RCA 9 X 571 (3 knobs) Just finished hooking it up to my little RCA 9-JY turntable, Wow, I couldnt believe how nice and full / rich sounding it is ! I am not a audiophile (might not of even spelled it correctly LOL) But I can tell nice sound. Last edited by beetle on Dec 6:00 am, edited 2 times in total. It was a good book, and was very useful in helping me restore both of my RCA sets. #Rca victor radio radio attic how to
As I mentioned above, they sound great with the big 8" speakers.Īs an aside, there is a book out that extensively uses the RCA 9X-561 as an example of how AA5 radios work, and how to fix them. I found them relatively easy to work on (with a little help from some forum members!) as the chassis was roomy. The 571 was given to me by a friend, and I paid $35 locally for the 561. I wonder if the large speaker size has something to do with the relatively large electrolytics. These are some of the larger electrolytics that I have encountered in an AA5 set in my rather limited experience. It is interesting to me that the 571 has a complement of rather large electrolytic filtering caps: it uses 2 120 uFs and and a 40 uF, while the 561 uses an 80 and a 50 uF set. On the 561, the left side has only 1 control which is the on/off and volume control, and the right side has the tuning knob.īoth of these sets have a nice big 8" speaker and sound great! While the sets are similar electronically, there are some differences. On the right side of the cabinet is the tuning knob. As the guys said, the 571 has 2 controls on the left side, one turns the power on/off and controls the radio and phono tone, and the other is the volume. Thanks !Īttached is a picture of my RCA 9X-571 (left) and RCA 9X-561. Like I said any advice is greatly appreciated, I need to make up my mind tonight if im buying this tommorrow before I head back home. Are these decent radios ? can parts be found ? What goes bad in them ? I dont like buying 60 year old stuff that I dont know how to repair.

All his radio's are very nice, so it reflects on his quality (at least in my mind anyways) I want to know everyting I can about this radio, I am clueless on radios, I have restored turntables and am very mechanical, but dont have a clue on how a tube radio works. I found this radioĪt an antique mall I visit on a monthly basis, The dealer is very reptuable, and I am told by everyone I ask he does very good work on his restorations. Hello, I have spent most of my time in the Phonograph section of this forum, but my latest addiction has been 1949 RCA Victor 45 rpm turntables, Well this addiction has lead me to wanting a cool old radio to plug this turntable into.
